PIOTR PALECZNY - PIANIST

The pianist performs a variety of Chopin ballades, scherzos and mazurkas in the first part and Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” during the second part.

Paleczny (1946-    ) is one of Polands most decorated and lauded pianists.  A Chopin specialist which he has performed thoughtout the world and recorded also made a specialty of performing Mussorgsky’s cycle.  He also plays other Polish composers works including Lutoslawski, Paderewski and Szymanowski.  He initially studied with Karol Szafranek and at the Warsaw Music Academy with Chopin specialist Jan Ekier.  Between 1968 and 1972 he won five major prizes at competitions in Sofia, Munich, Warsaw, Pleven and Bordeaux. (3rd in the Chopin Competition in Warsaw.)  He has appeared throughout the world as soloist with orchestra and recital including Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Leipzig, London, New York City, Tokyo, Warsaw, Washington D.C. and Zurich.  Paleczny was also the soloist for the 100th Anniversary Concert of the Warsaw National Philharmonic.  He has given master classes in even a broader range of cities.  His recordings are on BBC, EMI, Naxos and smaller labels.  He has taught at the Frederic Chopin Conservatory in Warsaw for many years.  The President of Poland made him a national “Professor” in 1998.
